LUCKNOW: As western disturbance fizzled out, temperatures dropped reviving cold wave conditions in the state. Agra was the coldest in the state with 2.2 degrees celsius while Lucknow shivered at 4.4 degrees celsius.
Sultanpur recorded a minimum of 3.9 Degrees Celsius. According to met office cold wave will intensify in the next 24 hours.
The dramatic change in the weather can be gauged from the fact that there was a drop of 8-10 degrees in minimum temperatures during last 24 hours.
The temperatures were high last week because of the western disturbance. However, as soon as the skies became clear, dry icy continental winds pierced into the state forcing temperatures to drop considerably. The icy winds made people to shiver even during the daytime.
This is the second spell of cold wave in January this year and third since the start of winter season when mercury levels have dropped below 5 degrees in the state.
Earlier such cold wave conditions were witnessed on December 19 and on January 1. On both the occasions, minimum temperatures had dropped in the state capital to 3.6 Degrees Celsius.
State MeT director KP Kulshrestha said that so far western disturbance was preventing entry of dry icy winds into the state.
It was also responsible for light rains in isolated parts of the state last week, he added. However, now when the sky is clear, temperatures are expected to drop further in coming 24 hours, he said
